August Highlights:
- Both global design and sourcing activities declined in August, following stronger-than-expected performance in July. Despite this month-over-month dip, trends in design and sourcing have remained relatively stable for the seventh consecutive month (see above chart).
- Compared to the same period last year, global design activity remained flat, while global sourcing activity was significantly lower (-23% year-over-year).
- Design activity decreased across all regions, with the most significant decline in the EMEA region (-12% month-over-month). All product categories saw reduced activity, with the steepest drops in power circuits and microcontrollers/processors.
- Global sourcing activity dropped in both the APAC and EMEA regions, with EMEA experiencing the largest decrease (-23% month-over-month). In contrast, the Americas saw a slight increase (+2% month-over-month), driven by growth in the United States and Canada.
Q3 2024 Outlook:
- For calendar Q3, global design and sourcing activities are expected to decrease between -5% to -7% quarter-over-quarter.
