August 2024 Design and Sourcing Insights Trend Chart

August Highlights:

  • Both global design and sourcing activities declined in August, following stronger-than-expected performance in July. Despite this month-over-month dip, trends in design and sourcing have remained relatively stable for the seventh consecutive month (see above chart).
  • Compared to the same period last year, global design activity remained flat, while global sourcing activity was significantly lower (-23% year-over-year).
  • Design activity decreased across all regions, with the most significant decline in the EMEA region (-12% month-over-month). All product categories saw reduced activity, with the steepest drops in power circuits and microcontrollers/processors.
  • Global sourcing activity dropped in both the APAC and EMEA regions, with EMEA experiencing the largest decrease (-23% month-over-month). In contrast, the Americas saw a slight increase (+2% month-over-month), driven by growth in the United States and Canada.
