Global design and sourcing activities for electronic components increased in January, following typical seasonal trends. Growth was primarily driven by the EMEA and Americas regions, while the APAC region experienced a decline due to the Lunar New Year holiday.

January Design Activities:

  • Global design activities rose 10% month-over-month and 6% year-over-year.
  • Key markets showing increased activity in electronics design and manufacturing included Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
  • In the APAC region, India, South Korea, and Australia recorded growth in design activities.The most notable increases were observed in power circuits, resistors, transistors, and diodes across all regions.

January Sourcing Activities:

  • Global sourcing activities grew 5% month-over-month but remained below the levels seen during the same period last year.
  • Key markets that experienced growth in sourcing included Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Poland, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, India, Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan.
  • In the EMEA and Americas regions, power circuits and optoelectronics saw the most significant increases. Additional categories with rising demand in at least one of these regions included transistors, drivers and interfaces, diodes, terminal blocks, and capacitors.
  • In the APAC region, connectors, optoelectronics, terminal blocks, and diodes experienced increased demand.

Calendar Q1 2025 Insights & Outlook:

  • Design and sourcing activities remained strong in key verticals, particularly computer equipment, industrial control and automation, and automotive.
  • Projections for Q1 remain unchanged, with global design activities expected to grow by 6% quarter-over-quarter, while global sourcing activities are anticipated to increase by 4% to 5%.
