For the last year, a single word has dominated supply chain headlines: tariffs. Over the course of 2025, tariffs had far-reaching effects as they constantly shifted and changed the landscape of sourcing. While things have quieted down heading into 2026, many are just now feeling the delayed effects of these price increases.
Tariffs themselves are unpredictable, but their effects can be traced in ways that put power back into the hands of sourcing and procurement teams. Join us as we look at a new Tariff calculator available on Findchips and how tools like this can help with navigating supply chain uncertainty.
How Tariff Calculators Help
For sourcing and engineering professionals, tariffs are about more than just cost increases. They present other forms of risk as well, which could impact the speed of development and time to market. What’s worse is that tariffs have a ripple effect on the supply chain.
Suddenly, teams need to consider new factors like country of origin when they’re choosing parts. This affects what suppliers they can use, and it’s just one example of the risks that appear when tariffs are in play.
Tariff calculators address this in several ways:
- They translate HTS/HS codes and country of origin into estimated duty rates
- They offer a cost range to expect, instead of a nebulous surcharge
- They allow buyers to model both best and worst-case scenarios for cost
- They enable teams to compare suppliers across different countries
These benefits allow procurement teams to budget accordingly, instead of waiting for the invoices to hit. They can also use this data to test dual-sourcing scenarios and thereby influence the greater supplier strategy.
By identifying real and concrete estimates, these calculators give procurement teams the information they need to align with other teams and with their suppliers as well. Having an estimate also means that teams will have negotiation leverage in discussions with suppliers that they can use to reach more favorable agreements.
Using the New Tariff Estimator on Findchips
Since 1998, Findchips has been a trusted source of intelligence for engineering and sourcing professionals. With seamless part search and deep insights, it offers certainty in an often uncertain world.
With the recent resurgence of tariffs in 2025, we identified the need to add a new capability for Findchips users, which led to the new Tariff Estimator. With this tool, users can estimate potential tariff costs for any part of their BOM simply by providing the country of origin, the HTS code, and the import value.
To find it, simply search for your part and then click “Tariff Estimator” in the Quick Jump section at the top of the part details page. Once you’ve input the basic information, you’ll receive an estimated cost analysis that can be used to inform part selection and tradeoff decisions.

It also allows teams to perform analysis on “what if” scenarios that account for the country of origin. All of this contributes to more resilient sourcing strategies in a time when they’re needed most.
